Former Richland County Sheriff Arrested

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of former deputy Jessica Way, 31, on charges of petit larceny.

On July 16, during an internal audit, it was discovered that there was a $410.00 cash discrepancy from the sex offender registry receipts. This information was then turned over to the Sheriff’s Department criminal investigations division to open a case. The investigation revealed that, Way, while processing the sex offenders who were coming in to register, was stealing small amounts of money at a time to not draw attention.

On July 24, Way was immediately terminated, and when questioned she confessed.

Today, July 28, Way was arrested for petit larceny under $2,000.00 and booked into the Alvin S. Glen Detention Center.

Jessica Way, has been with the sheriff’s department for just under 4 years, serving as a deputy in the sex offender registry unit.
