As many of us ex-military know and have learned in our time of service that once you join the military (any branch) you belong to a large family. We jokingly argue over which branch is better and always watch the Army Navy Football game in rival sports.
But the truth is you will always have brothers and sisters who care about you, whether you are a WWII veteran, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan, you have a family. This family will always be there when you are down and will always help no matter what the situation.
Today, I lost my dog and was heartbroken to the point of anger. But it was a fellow veteran who came to my aid and helped me make the arrangements for her cremation and even paid for it. His name, Randal Habik, former Military Police.
Without hesitation he began to help with her body and her arrangements. He placed her in her shroud as I was unable to do so and paid for her services. This is not something done lightly. Strangers today in the world forget that this is the way our society is suppose to be. We fought for the simple fact of one person helping another.
Many times in combat we are left at the hands of strangers that we simply just met and we put our lives in their hands as they place theirs in ours. But its after you leave military service that you find true meaning in these things. Service men of all branches stand side by side with each other in times of need.
Mr. Habik is a good example of this fact.
Soldiers today have no idea what it means, because you don’t learn this until you leave service. But know that the Brotherhood/Sisterhood you joined continues after service NO MATTER WHAT!
