Trooper Injured After Being Struck on Traffic Stop In Richland County

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is on the scene of a multi-vehicle collision at Augusta Rd/Lost Branch Rd in Lexington County. The collision occurred on September 9, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was on a traffic stop at the location when a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy slowed down to check on the trooper during the traffic stop. A vehicle traveling in the same lane as the deputy failed to stop in time. The vehicle collided with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department vehicle, the vehicle SCHP had detained on the traffic stop, another unrelated vehicle, and struck the trooper while out of his vehicle.

The SCHP trooper was injured and air lifted to a local hospital. The RCSD Traffic Safety Unit was requested to investigate the collision as SCHP and LCSD were involved. The investigation is still ongoing.
