Black Bear Visits Myrtle Beach Up A Tree

The Myrtle Beach Police Department is on scene in the area of 8th Ave S and Oak Street after being alerted to a small black bear in a tree.

Officers initially responded to the area of 9th Ave S and Ocean Boulevard at approximately 5:54 AM, June 15, after receiving a call of an adolescent bear running in the area. A short time later a second call came in and the bear was located in a tree in the area of Oak Street and 8th Ave S.

MBPD Animal Control is working with the Department of Natural Resources to safely relocate the bear.

For the safety of our community and the adolescent bear, officers have set up a perimeter around the scene. We are asking the public to keep their distance and let officers have space to work while we try to safely relocate the bear.

We thank the community members and visitors who have provided the original information. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.
