Around 12 noon today (1/16/25), your KCSO was investigating a domestic dispute call in the Ashley Creek Subdivision of Elgin. At some point of the investigation, the male suspect presented a firearm to victim and a KCSO deputy. The deputy immediately pulled the victim to safety as the suspect barricaded himself inside his residence. KCSO negotiators and Special Response Team (SRT) members were called to the scene.
KCSO negotiators made multiple attempts to communicate with the suspect for almost three hours with no success. An arrest warrant was signed on the suspect by a judge before SRT entered the residence. The suspect was located dead of a suspected, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Kershaw County Coroner David West has identified the deceased as Daniel Leonard Trobaugh, Jr (78) of Elgin, SC.
As per KCSO procedure, SLED was called to investigate this incident.
