Sheriff Leon Lott is saddened to announce the death of a recently retired deputy due to COVID-19.
Corporal Dale Salmond, 53, of Columbia, SC died on Thursday, February 3, 2022 in the hospital from complications due to the COVID-19 virus.
Salmond started his career with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in January 1999. He served in different capacities and officially retired as a Patrol Corporal in October 2021.
Salmond, a cancer survivor, served 23 years with Richland County. He’ll best be remembered for his infectious smile and positive attitude. Salmond’s legacy in law enforcement continues with his son, Braylyn Salmond who is serving with the Columbia Police Department (pictured). Salmond was a proud father and grandfather and leaves behind a large family.
“Dale was one of those special individuals that always brightened your day,” Sheriff Lott said. He was always smiling and loved being a Sheriff’s Deputy. Dale was a good cop but a great person. We will never forget him.”
Please keep the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Retired Corporal Salmond’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
