

Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrests of Tyron Shelley (DOB: 8/27/05) and Ta’John Goodwin (DOB: 12/26/04) in connection with the murder that occurred at 1051 Southern Drive yesterday, August 22, 2025.
On August 22, just after 12:30 pm, deputies responded to the apartments at 1051 Southern Drive in reference to a shooting with one person hit by gunfire. When deputies arrived, they located an adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body; he was pronounced dead on scene by EMS. The suspects fled before deputies’ arrival.
Investigators were able to identify a gold Chevy Tahoe as the suspect vehicle and locate both the vehicle and Tyron Shelley at Shelley’s residence in the Earlewood area. Shelley was immediately taken into custody. During the execution of a search warrant at the residence, investigators located a firearm stolen out of Florence County. Shelley is charged with Murder and is detained at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
During the investigation, investigators identified a second suspect, Ta’John Goodwin. With cooperation from Goodwin’s family, Goodwin turned himself in at RCSD Headquarters today, August 23, 2025. Goodwin is charged with Murder and will be booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting.

It is unknown at this time whether the victim is an adult or a juvenile. The suspect(s) fled before deputies’ arrival.
This is still an active investigation and crime scene. At this time, the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident. Non-residents of the apartments at 1051 Southern Drive are encouraged to avoid the complex to allow law enforcement space to work.
