Sheriff Leon Lott announces the detention of a juvenile following a traffic stop.
On July 8, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., deputies observed a Nissan Altima traveling in the area of Brookland Circle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop due to a lighting violation. The passenger of the vehicle fled on foot. Deputies were able to detain the driver of the vehicle; the driver did not incur any charges.
Deputies observed the passenger reaching for his waistband and throwing items as he ran. The suspect was apprehended by deputies and detained.
K9 arrived on scene and located an orange pill bottle with over 10 pink/purple pills and a firearm thrown by the suspect while he fled. A white bag was also located with more small baggies of narcotics. The firearm had an extended magazine and had been modified with a Glock “switch”, turning the semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic handgun.
The 17-year-old male suspect was transported to DJJ and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of a Schedule 1 Narcotic, Possession of a Machine Gun, and Possession of Firearm Under the age of 18.
