Former Richland County Deputy Sheriff Arrested

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of former deputy Christopher Moore, 29, on charges of misconduct in office.

On June 19, it was brought to the attention of Richland County investigators that Moore had used his position to gain a personal relationship.

The investigation revealed that Moore, while employed as a deputy with the Sheriff’s Department, conducted a traffic stop and obtained a female’s personal information, which he was entrusted with as a law enforcement officer, and used it to communicate with her in a personal capacity. The communication occurred using his department’s cell phone.

Moore was terminated on Friday, June 20, 2025. Today, June 24, he was arrested and charged with misconduct in office and has been booked into the Alvin S. Glen Detention Center.

“It’s incidents like this that lead to mistrust in police, and I will not tolerate it.” Sheriff Lott said. “We have so many good deputies, and it angers me to have one amongst us that has betrayed the community’s trust, but rest assured that I will hold my deputies who break the law accountable.”

Christopher Moore has been with the sheriff’s department for about 18 months, serving as a community action team deputy.
