SLED CHARGES FORMER ANDERSON COUNTY DEPUTY WITH ILL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS

Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Patrick Cowan Henry, Jr., 46, of Anderson, SC, on March 6, 2023, with Ill Treatment of Animals – 1st Offense. Details can be found in the attached warrant.
Henry was booked at Anderson County Detention Center.


Henry was a deputy with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) at the time of the investigation. ACSO Animal Control deputies observed the condition of a dog owned by Henry and noted the dog appeared to be in need of medical attention. The dog was seized and turned over to Anderson County Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS) Animal Shelter for medical treatment.


Due to Henry’s employment with the ACSO, on November 28, 2022, ACSO requested SLED
conduct the investigation.


The case will be prosecuted by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The arrest warrant states:

“That on or about November 26th, 2022, in the county of Anderson, one Patrick Cowan Henry, Jr., did commit the crime of ill treatment animals, in general, overworking, 1st offense in that he did have an approximately 7 year old brindle and white American Staffordshire Terrier that weight 42 pounds. An exam by Dr. Kim Sanders showed that the dog was severely emaciated. Her ribs, lumbar spine, pelvic bones and all bony prominences were visible from a distance. The overall shape of this dog has been neglected for an extended period of time.”
