A former Kershaw County Deputy has been arrested for assaulting a detainee at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
This incident happened back on May 24, 2020, during a booking at the Kershaw County Detention Center while Johnathan Lewis Goldsmith was employed as a deputy with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the warrant Goldsmith assaulted the victim with two punches to the stomach, after the victim kicked Goldsmith in the groin area.
Goldsmith was later terminated 6 months later by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office in November 2020. 9 months later, in August of 2021, the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office asked SLED to investigate an allegation of excessive use of force involving Goldsmith.
On Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 Goldsmith was charged with 3rd degree assault and battery.
At 5:00 P.M. on 2/7/2023 Goldsmith was not listed as an inmate at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
