SLED CHARGED 18 PEOPLE IN INSURANCE FRAUD RING

Last week South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents arrested 17 people in the first major case for the partnership between SLED, the Department of Insurance (DOI) and the Attorney General’s Office.

SLED’s investigation found five separate insurance claims totaling $210,922.93, with a total payout of $93,774.28.

“Our SLED agents are dedicated to rooting out insurance fraud,” said SLED Chief Mark Keel.  “The victims of staged accidents, and our citizens that pay the resulting higher insurance premiums, are all better served through this collaboration and the state’s increased investment in fighting insurance fraud.”

The subjects are facing multiple charges detailed in the attached warrants.

SLED agents arrested: Taqwan Abrams, Tyler Anderson, Davarius Brown, Ar’Terrani General, Aminah Hart, Michael Leneau, Shalii Leneau, Alexis Mosley, Brad Nelson, Marquis Pressley, Calvin Porcher, Deljuan Shaw, Oshzhane Simon, Marquise Slater, Shamaria Vanburen, Shy Miek Washington, and Shyrem Williams.

All but one of the subjects were booked at the Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center.

Tyburious Heyward, the suspected ringleader, is at large.

The case will be prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Joshua Underwood, Director of the Insurance Fraud Division within SCDOI.
