Charleston County Sheriff Kristin Graziano Releases Statement Concerning Jamal Sutherland Death

Charleston County Sheriff Kristin Graziano releases a Statement concerning a new video about the Special Operations Group that she feels is relevant to the death of Jamal Sutherland investigation.

Jamal Sutherland died while being forcibly removed from his cell for a bond hearing back in January. Sutherland was tased repeatedly (6 – 8 times) in an attempt to remove him from his cell.

Sheriff Graziano had placed Detention Sargent Lindsay Fickett and Deputy Brian Houle on administrative leave following the incident, but in May of 2021 terminated their employment, shortly after the release of the video showing Sutherland’s removal from his cell.

Circuit Court Judge Bentley Price approved a $10 Million settlement in the civil case brought by the Sutherland Family.
