Just before 2 p.m. Thursday, a Charleston County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver fled. The deputy chased the suspect, who drove into the McDaniel’s Audi car dealership at 2293 Savannah Highway and hit four unoccupied vehicles, causing property damage. The suspect fled on foot, leaving numerous firearms inside the vehicle. Sheriff’s K-9s, helicopter, and Charleston police officers assisted with a perimeter and search for the suspect. Several citizens also helped by providing ongoing information on his location. After a five-hour search, the suspect was located but resisted arrest until deputies restrained him. Three stolen firearms, multiple stolen credit cards, and burglary tools were located in the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect, Marcus Ray Goins, 28, was charged with multiple offenses that include failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, resisting arrest, hit and run, unlawful carrying a weapon, possession of burglary tools, and driving under suspension.
