Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of two men in connection to the early morning attempted robbery and shooting at the Waffle House.
Jamal Ford – DOB: 12/26/2000 – was arrested earlier today on charges of armed robbery (attempted), possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen pistol.
Kenji D. Yates – DOB: 06/14/1998 – was arrested earlier today on charges of armed robbery (attempted) and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Tuesday, August 11, around midnight Richland County Deputies were dispatched to 2345 Broad River Rd. – Waffle House – for a hold-up alarm. On arrival it was discovered that two black men entered the business pointed guns at the cook and demanded money. The investigation revealed that the suspects were confronted by a good samaritan who was armed, gun fire was exchanged inside the restaurant and the suspects fled without any money. No injuries were reported. The quick response of patrol deputies and K-9 deputies to establish a perimeter and track, led to the arrest of both suspects.

Yates and Ford, both of Lexington, where taken into custody without incident and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
