Burglary Arrests Of Two Cigarette Bandits

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrests of two men labeled “Cigarette Bandits” in connection with a string of burglaries at convenience store-gas stations across the midlands all in a month’s time. The two men, Jeffcoat and Young, are responsible for over 10 burglaries. They would break a window or door to gain entry into the businesses; steal cigarettes and then sell them to other businesses. These men have lengthy criminal histories; were out on bond and currently on probation at the time of the burglaries.

He is charged with one count of burglary and one count of larceny. More charges could be forthcoming from Lexington County and Irmo. Jeffcoat was previously arrested by RCSD back in August for doing the same thing.

Both men conspired to break into eight businesses in Richland County, at least one in Lexington County and one in Irmo during a month-long crime spree. Our investigators dedicated countless hours working on each case and identifying those responsible. This unfortunately is another example of catch and release. The criminal justice system needs to do better.
“Jeffcoat is a career criminal with an extensive rap sheet — which includes multiple violent crimes – yet he was released to commit more crimes,” said Sheriff Lott. “This is another prime example of what I’ve been talking about. We keep catching these criminals and they keep getting released.”
Both men are being held in Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
