Media Advisory: RCSD Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces an officer-involved shooting investigation, following an incident where a deputy was shot at while responding to an emergency call.

On Monday, Nov. 2, deputies responded to reports of a domestic incident in the 2500 block of Marathon Drive around 1:40 p.m. As the deputy arrived on scene, the suspect began firing at the deputy’s vehicle. The deputy returned fire from within his vehicle, striking the suspect in the upper body.

The suspect, however, was undeterred. Despite his injuries, he ran over to the house next door, and grabbed a woman who he attempted to hold hostage. Her spouse, however, was able to disarm the suspect and assist the deputy in apprehending the man.

The suspect has been identified as Michael Jayvone Dennis — DOB: 07/22/1997. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Once released, he will be taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Sheriff Lott identified the deputy involved in the shooting as Josiah McComb. He was hired September 2018.
